Dorothy Drummond

July 21, 1935 ~ October 26, 2019

Dorothy Drummond

It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Drummond (nee Newbury) of Whitehorse, Yukon on October 26, 2019 at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her loving Husband of 49 years Richard Gordon Drummond (June 17, 2005) and leaves behind her two children Christine and Stuart (Tina), her Granddaughters Erin (Cameron) and Fiona (Al) and two wonderful Great-grandchildren, Connor and Elissa – who brought her much joy in her last years with us.

She was born on July 21th 1935 in Seaton Carew (Hartlepool), England. In 1955 she married Gordon and soon after welcomed their children Christine and Stuart to the family. In 1966 the family immigrated to Canada and traveled western Canada before finally settling in the Yukon in 1970. Dorothy was very well known in the community for her countless volunteering hours.  She was very passionate about the health and welfare of seniors in the North and won the Governor General’s Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012. Dorothy never missed Erin and Fiona’s school field trips or horse shows, she was known to everyone in the school as “Grandma” and sometimes travelled long distances to support her grandchildren for which they will be forever grateful.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at Mount MacIntyre’s Grey Mountain Room on November 8th 2019 at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, we invite those to make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.   We invite all of those who knew her to please come celebrate the life of this wonderful woman and share your fondest memories of her.

It is with great sadness that I pen my sorrow for the loss of a dear friend cherished.
We have many fond memories of the good times spent out at Crag Lake and our many
get togethers in Whitehorse and with the friendship I enjoyed with Dorothy over the
many years. Dorothy touched all that she knew with goodness and beauty and will
    forever be remembered.
