Lynn Ann Standing-WhitenMarch 23, 1955 ~ August 02, 2016
After a courageous 6 year battle with ovarian cancer, Lynn passed away peacefully at home as per her wish.
Born in Montreal, Lynn arrived in the Yukon in 1973 to work in Haines Junction, after a short time she moved to Whitehorse. Tired of tending bar at the Travelodge, Lynn aspired for more challenge and decided she wanted to learn the electrical trade and became a journeyperson in 1980. She took a job in Inuvik in 1981 and met her nemesis Roy, and eventually called a truce which led to a 35 year loving adventure. They moved back to Whitehorse in 1982 where Lynn decided she needed another career change, and she joined the Total North team to learn the communication trade. Lynn and Roy welcomed daughter Darcy in 1986. Lynn eventually joined the Yukon Government and worked her way up to Director of Facilities Management. In 2001, Lynn found the home of her dreams on Army Beach and their family moved to the lake. Darcy married in 2010 and gave Lynn 2 wonderful grandchildren to love and enjoy.
Lynn loved the outdoors and what the Yukon had to offer, she was involved in many volunteer activities with her main passions being youth hockey and Yukon Women in Trades. She was an inspiration to many.
Sadly missed by her Dad Ernie Standing, sister Gail Standing-Forsyth (Greg), brother Terry Standing (Despina), daughter Darcy Larsen (Jesse), grandson Louis, granddaughter Ava, husband Roy Whiten, mother in law Florence Whiten, sister in law Jennifer Wood and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Doctors Adrienne Mayes, Robin Jamieson, Danusia Kanachowski, Lucille Stuart and Oncologist Anthony Attwell. Many thanks to Liz, Patrice, Manny and Theresa at Home Care and Jen from Hospice Yukon.
