He eventually moved to Whitehorse, built a house and worked for many years for the Department of Public Works. He began a sign painting business on the side and later turned it into a successful painting contracting business called North Star Painting and Decorating.

Al was a great friend. No matter the miles that separated us he never forgot about my family. We will miss him.

I never knew Alphonse personally but he lived next to the downtown community garden in Whitehorse. He was a quiet neighbor but his kindness showed every spring when he would fill water barrels at the fence line for the gardeners to use while they anxiously awaited for the city to turn the water on. We designated a plot for him, free of charge every year so he too could enjoy gardening. Amongst his vegetables, he loved to grow pansies 🙂
He will be missed by all of the gardeners. Rest in Peace, Alphonse.
