Michael Sawatsky
On July 1, 2021, Mike Sawatsky passed away peacefully at home at the age of 53, surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife Crystal, son Andrew, daughter Erica, brother Greg, and niece Kiera.
Mike was born and raised in Whitehorse. He lived in Calgary while attending SAIT, however quickly realized his home was the Yukon. Mike became an electrician and ran his own successful electrical contracting company for years. Mike loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and boating. At one time, “Admiral Sawatsky” had nine boats.
Mike was devoted to his family and friends. He was always willing to help build a shed, launch a boat or whatever was needed. He was kind and generous and would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need. Those close to him count themselves lucky to have known him. He will be greatly missed.
In 2013, Mike suffered a severe adverse drug reaction (ADR). He fought tirelessly to increase awareness and education of ADR’s so that nobody would have to suffer the devastating health deterioration he went through. ADR’s are the fourth leading cause of death in Canada. Mike requested that in lieu of flowers, people educate themselves at www.adrcanada.org and make a donation to help continue research and education into ADR’s so that no one else has to watch a loved one suffer from something so easily preventable.
A celebration of life for Michael will take place on July 2, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Michael’s and Crystal’s home. Please contact Heritage North Funeral Home for address details.
