Marjorie Michiko Profeit
With great sadness we announce the passing of Marjorie on July 4th. Marjorie was born in Mayo, Yukon and is pre-deceased by her husband Charlie, and sister Jean (Albert) Plouffe. Survived by her brother George (Irene) Nagano, daughter Marjorie (Doug), and sons: Jim (Linda), Dan (Dianna), Michael (Kate), 6 Grandchildren, and 10 Great-grandchildren. Marjorie will be missed by all of her relatives and so many friends. She is now resting peacefully with Charlie.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Marjorie loved bright colours, and red in particular, in her memory please wear bright clothes to her celebration. Viewing will be on Monday July 9th7:00-9:00pm at Heritage North Funeral Home 412 Cook Street. The celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held on Wednesday July 11th2:00pm at the Christ Church Cathedral 4thAvenue and Elliott Street in Whitehorse. Interment following at Grey Mountain Cemetery, with a reception at Hellaby Hall at 4:00pm.
The family wishes to extend our sincere and heart felt appreciation to all the staff at Thomson Centre. Your help and support was above and beyond. We thank you so much for everything you did for Marjorie!

Marjorie always welcomed me, and later me and my family into her home.
She was a kind women who always had a smile. Growing up in the north I have met some special people who stood out to me due to their strong work ethic, community mindedness, and positive outlook on life, and Marjorie (Mrs. Profeit to me) is at the top of this list.
Grace Snider
‘Mrs. Profeit’ (the only term that I ever used to address her) was a significant and special person in my childhood in Dawson. She was my youngest brother’s (Richard Snider) Godmother. Mrs. Profeit was a beautiful woman, with a beautiful and generous spirit. She was a fabulous gardener, cook and baker and made the BEST Nanaimo bars and dinner buns. She was an honoured guest at the weddings of our family members. When my son was born 15 years ago, I could hardly wait to introduce the two of them.
In this past year, Mrs. Profeit lived in the same continuing care home as my mom so I was able to have a visit with her almost weekly. A few weeks ago I received the warmest hug from her, topped off by her sparkling smile.
Mrs. Profeit – Thank you for being a loving, kind and generous human being and for sharing so much with my family and I. I love you and I will remember you always!

In the summer of 1979 we traveled by freighter canoe on the Pelly and Yukon Rivers from Faro to Dawson. Once we got our land legs back under us, we made our way to Charlie and Marge Profeit’s home where a friend had stowed our truck and trailer for our return trip home. Sun burned, wind blown and pooped from seven long days on the water, we were welcomed in to their home where we enjoyed a refreshing hot cup of tea, some home made buns and other nibblies and some wonderful stories from Marge and Charlie about their early days in Dawson. I was in awe of her garden which boasted huge potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes beans, carrots and assorted other veggies, all growing happily under the midnght sun. Whenever I saw Mrs. Profeit (I too, always addressed her this way) walking around Whitehorse I would stop and enjoy a quick chat with her on the street, her smile would always lift your spirits. Although our interactions were intermittent and brief, the impact of this truly gracious woman will not be forgotten. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.
