Sybil Brittin
Sybil passed away peacefully at Macaulay Lodge in Whitehorse on Friday evening, October 16, 2015. Born in England, Sybil immigrated to Canada with her mother and brother at the end of World War II, and grew up in Eastern Ontario. In 1952, Sybil married Paul Brittin and the couple worked and travelled throughout the United States; for years they loved to hike, camp and canoe wherever they went, including numerous trips to the Yukon. Sybil fell in love with the Yukon Territory and moved there permanently in 1980. She continued to pursue her love of the outdoors, canoeing most of the Yukon River in various stages from the headwater lakes to the delta. She thought nothing of departing on solitary canoe and camping trips for weeks at a time. Wherever she went, her keen wit, generosity and indomitable spirit were an inspiration to all she met. She settled in the Tagish area and was a friend and good neighbour in the community, with much involvement in the Tagish library and community hall. She will be missed by all her Yukon friends and everyone she touched, especially her brother Ed, his wife Sharon, daughters Sue and Pam, grandsons Alex, Jordan and Ian and close friend Larry Clarke in Ottawa. Heartfelt thanks to Merle Just and the nursing staff of Macaulay Lodge for their kind, compassionate care and to all Sybil’s many extra special friends.
