Valentine Jaynes Macleod
It is with great sadness we announce that, on July 4, 2016, Valentine Jaynes Macleod passed away at her home in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Val is survived by her sons Stuart (Ann Marie) and Bill (Gina), her grandchildren Erin, Katherine, Elizabeth (and their mother Rosemary Driscoll), Benjamin, Grady, Marina, and Chloe, her sister Judith (Jim) and brothers Michael, Stephen and John (Pat), her sister-in-law Jane, sister-in-law Donna Ontonio, and brother-in-law Don Dale. She was pre-deceased by her father Norman Macleod, her mother Margaret, her step-brother Norman (Jane), and her sister-in-law Rhonda (Michael).
Val was born in Calgary, Alberta, and spent the first part of her life there, attending school, starting and thriving in a career at AGT/Telus, and, as a single mom, raising Stuart and Bill and an extended family of neighbourhood kids! Through this period, she drew strength from her extended family, including her mom, her sister and brothers, cousins, friends, and co-workers. She was especially grateful for the support of Jude and Jim, Bev and Nelda, Audie and Frank, and her dear friend Roberta.
Once her Calgary nest emptied, and upon her retirement from Telus, she embarked on a new adventure, moving to Whitehorse, expanding her circle of friends, and becoming known to dozens as Grandma Val. She threw herself into her adopted community, getting involved with various civic groups and causes, and of course with a local quilting circle. It was in Whitehorse that she really hit her stride as a crafter, specializing in cross-stitching, quilting, and a prodigious output of Christmas stockings!
Celebration of Val’s life will be held in Whitehorse on Thursday August 11th and Calgary on Saturday August 13th, times and locations to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund of BC and Yukonhttp://www.heartandstroke.bc.ca.
