Terrance Alexander Sakiw
In Loving Memory of
Terrance Alexander Sakiw
December 14, 1953 – March 2, 2026
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our loving father, Terry Sakiw.
Terry was born in Whitehorse and grew up in Destruction Bay. His mother, Irene, was a waitress there, and his father, Alex, ran equipment and worked on the highways for YG. Alex was recognized for his many years of service by having a creek near Burwash Landing named after him, “Sakiw Creek”, which Terry was very proud of.
Terry came to Whitehorse to attend FH Collins in the late 1960s, followed by completion of vocational school. He then became a truck driver which was a passion of his. He had his own company, Pine Tree Hauling, and worked most recently, for several years, for Norcope.
In 1977 he started dating the love of his life, Sylvia Fogarassy, and quickly took on her daughters Melonie and Candace as his own. Along came Tera in 1979 and the family was complete.
Terry enjoyed camping, slot machines, time with family, 70’s rock, a lip full of chew, and in his younger years a stiff rye and coke. He had a fantastic sense of humour, a strong work ethic, and a short fuse, but always had a kind heart and a gentle demeanor with his three girls.
Terry was predeceased by his father Alex Sakiw, his mother Irene Sakiw and his wife Sylvia Sakiw. He is survived by his three daughters, Melonie Moir (Chris), Candace Leigh (Travis), Tera LaBar (Adam), his two grandchildren, Kaysen and Taryn Thomas, and his cat Missy.
We would like to acknowledge his good friends Declan Fenlon and Randy Ries and his long time employer, Doug Gonder. Thank you for being so good to our dad.
We will miss and love you forever dad.
Love, your girls.
