Richard “Dick” Bayne

February 14, 1939 ~ June 15, 2026

Richard “Dick” Bayne

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Bayne, who passed away peacefully in Whitehorse, Yukon, at the age of 87.

Dick was born on February 14, 1939, in Waltham, Quebec, where he was surrounded by his siblings, cousins, and family. From a young age, Dick was always on the go, whether he was taking off on his tricycle, evading his Auntie’s watchful eye, or running around Ontario and Quebec with his friends.

Dick made his way north with his brother Rod Bayne, hitchhiking to the Yukon in the 1960s. What began as an adventure became his home. Over the years, Dick lived in many places, including Beaver Creek, Watson Lake, Atlin, B.C., and Whitehorse. He built a long life in the North and worked in forestry until his retirement.

Dick often called himself a gypsy, and in many ways, that suited the life he lived. He was independent, full of stories, and always seemed to find his way wherever life took him. He enjoyed time spent with friends and could often be found having a beer with his buddies, no matter where he was. One of his well-known sayings, “Let’s go for a beer,” will be remembered fondly by those who knew him best.

Dick also had a great love for hockey. He always knew the stats and scores of every game and followed the season right to the very end. This year, he waited for the last puck to drop in the playoffs, a true hockey fan until the end.

Dick will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robin (Amylee), Terri, Robert, and Grant; his grandchildren, Airianna and Jason Bayne; along with extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his son, Dwayne Bayne.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and care staff in Whitehorse for their kindness, compassion, and care during Dick’s final days. A special thank you as well to the Nowell family, and to Saralee and Brian Vickers, for their love, support, and kindness.

Dick will be remembered with love, laughter, good stories, and many fond memories.
