Anna Marie Hamilton (née Meldrum)
Anna Marie Hamilton (née Meldrum) passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026. She met her breast cancer diagnosis as she met everything in life—directly, honestly, and with unflinching strength. At her side, as he had been since 1972, was her devoted husband, Norm.
Born on June 21, 1953, in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, to her mother, Edna, Anna grew up in the lively company of many siblings. Life’s tides carried her west, where she met Norm and began a partnership that spanned more than five decades.
In Summerside, Prince Edward Island, they welcomed their daughter Jennifer, and later in Whitehorse, Yukon their son Elliot. Together they built a life defined by community and enduring love.
She is survived by her husband, Norm; her children, Jenny (Becky) Hamilton and Elliot (Alain) Hamilton-Boucher; and her siblings, Stephen (Joanne) Meldrum and Charles Waite. She was predeceased by her mother, Edna Muriel Waite; her brothers Lewis Waite, Victor Meldrum, Calvin Meldrum, Freeman Waite, and Reg Waite; and her baby sister, Geraldine Nixdorf. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family and her many dear friends, whose love and fellowship meant so much to her.
To know Anna was to know steadiness. In uncertain moments, she was the one you could lean on. She believed deeply in recovery and healing, in showing up as your truest self, and in the quiet grace of second chances. Many lives found balance in her calm conviction that gentleness is its own kind of strength.
She once wrote, “Thank God for all my self-help books I had read over the years because I knew exactly what to do when Fear hit. Get back on that bike and ride.” That was Anna—afraid at times, perhaps, but never willing to let fear have the final word.
Before she died, Anna left a simple, urgent wish: That women get tested. “Do not wait. Go!”
Her laughter, kindness, and unshakable steadiness remain with us. She showed us how to face life honestly, to rise after we fall, and to love without reservation. The marks of such a life do not fade—they ripple outward, through every act of courage and compassion inspired by her example.
And in that love, Anna remains.
