Carl Rumscheidt
Carl Rumscheidt died on June 30, 2025. His smile, kind demeanour, fairness and love will be missed forever by Liz, his partner of 55 years, their children, extended family, nieces and nephews and friends. Grandfather of 8, Carl also had 7 great grandchildren.
Carl is predeceased by brothers Eberhart, Fritz and Martin Rumscheidt and sisters Heidi Rumscheidt Patriquin and Margaret Rumscheidt Ludvik.
We extend our deepest thanks to the nurses in the WGH Chemo Suite, Medical Daycare and the admin staff in Cancer Care. Carl felt very well cared for and respected. We also thank the doctors here and in Vancouver, particularly Dr. VanCamp and Dr. Ramadan and the nurses and docs who were present for Carl’s last days – doctors Quong, Doyle, Davies, Kanachowski, Kmet, Macdonald and Saltman as well as nurses Red, Charlotte, Paula, Trinity and so many others involved in his care.
Carl was proud to be a “bureaucrat” of which, he said, there are two kinds – “those who see reasons ‘why not’ to do something and those who see ‘why and how’ something can be done. He was the latter. Whether he was at work, meeting with a community organization with which he was involved, or taking off over the hills skiing, running, or biking, or kayaking on Yukon rivers and beyond, he always saw the “why and how” and he gave his all. He had not finished living, he said, but, as one doc commented, “he outlasted expectations”. May he continue to surprise.
A service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2p.m. at Whitehorse United Church. Carl’s family asks that if you feel so inclined, donations be made to: Karen’s Room at Whitehorse General Hospital (5 Hospital Rd. Y1A 3H7); or the Martin and Barbara Rumscheidt Memorial Scholarship, Atlantic School of Theology (www.astheology.ns.ca); or Whitehorse United Church (601 Main St. Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 1M6).

My condolences! A remarkable human. An honor to volunteer beside him. He was active in the local Rotary Club, right to the end. He was instrumental in applying and securing government funding for a large Rotary conference in May, 2026 in Whitehorse. The Rotary Club is going to create a scholarship in his name.
