John “JR” Bruce Jarvis
John, also known as Johnny Rotten or “JR” for short, was born on February 10, 1949, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to parents John and Ida Jarvis.
John loved to cook and made the best burgers. He was a cook in the Yukon for many years. During his time in Watson Lake, John worked at the Gateway Motor Inn, and in Upper Liard. In Whitehorse, he cooked at the Airport Chalet, Family Hotel, and at the 202 Restaurant in Whitehorse, as well as the hotel in Beaver Creek. John ended his working years at the front desk of the 202, and off sales at the Jarvis Street Saloon, for his best friend Debbie.
John kept his grandmother’s bbq sauce a secret and would not share it with anyone. I don’t think anyone could keep count of how many cases of caffeine-free diet Pepsi John would drink a week, or the Lindt chocolate bars, and lays plain chips he would eat. He looked forward to his sushi nights with Selina and Christopher, buying his 6 Big Macs with no lettuce on a Sunday for the week, and let’s not forget Friday night Radio Bingo nights. John was always full of entertaining stories, and sure enjoyed watching hockey.
The last 2 years John’s health declined quickly, physically and mentally. There were many things John still remembered and many things he didn’t.
John you will be missed by many. John wants his ashes brought to Nova Scotia to be with his mom and dad again. Sheri Lynne and Tom will bring John home to them.
Rest in Peace dear Friend.
Special thank you for all the care and love John received from all the staff at Copper Ridge Place. We know he held a special place in many of your hearts. Sheri Lynne, Tom, and Christopher appreciated everything you have done for John over the past 5 years. Thank you to Rebel for stepping in to visit and bring John all his treats when Sheri Lynne was away.
