Alan Wilfred Alcock

June 19, 1948 ~ April 12, 2026

Alan Wilfred Alcock

Al lived life to the fullest and left us much too soon.

He was born in Orillia, Ontario and joined the Army at 17 years of age. His intelligence and organizational skills were clearly evident even then, as he continually rose through the ranks at the youngest to do so in the Forces. While posted in Yellowknife, NWT, he was in charge of the setup, management and closing of the seasonal Cadet Camp in Whitehorse, Yukon. It was then that Yukon grabbed his heart, and the decision was made to retire from the Forces and move permanently to Whitehorse in 1981.

Life in Whitehorse allowed him to immerse himself in the community and was a strong supporter of the Agricultural Association and the Yukon Kennel Club for many years. He was also a volunteer Fire Fighter in Ibex Valley and a Canadian Red Cross delegate, travelling all over the world for disaster management efforts.

His continuing love was for his wife Lynn, of 57 married years, his homestead in Ibex Valley where he puttered and enjoyed fresh air, sunshine and mountain views, and his constant Cardigan Corgis companions. He and Lynn bred and raised Cardigan Corgis under the Welgem Kennel title, and their pups were renowned and sold all over the world.

He will be remembered for his wry wit, his constant smile and his big heart.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Mae Bachur Shelter in Whitehorse.

At his request, there will be no funeral service.

My husband and I met Al because we purchased a Corgi from him and Lynn.
It was wonderful being part of the Welgem family .
Al was so funny and helpful ,when we returned to the Yukon in 2022 to spread our Corgi Andy’s ashes the highlight of the trip was visiting with Al and Lynn and the corgis .
He will be so missed .
