Barb Hobman
“When I die & they lay me to rest-
goin’ up to the Spirit in the Sky”
Barb passed away on August 16, 2016 at Whitehorse General Hospital, surrounded by family. Barb was born on October 30, 1962 to parents Elvin and Marj Mierau. Barb always loved & adored her Dad, he played a huge part in her discovering her passion for fishing, where he taught her at McPhee Lake. Barb’s mom, Marj Mierau is so saddened by the unexpected loss of her youngest daughter; she was the sunshine of her life. Barb was so proud when she perfected Mom’s bun recipe.
Barb & her sisters had so many special times-the most memorable was being together with Bibs as she went thru her final journey. Her greatest joy was her son Bob, whom she was so proud of and all his accomplishments. Together they shared their love of the Great White North- for he too had caught the Yukon bug.
Vegas Spring adventures together were some of the most amazing times we shared. Bibs, her sister’s Donna & Sandra, Auntie Dot & cuz Chart-geez did we laugh. Us Golden Girls would always draw a crowd on our ’20 buck’ nights.
Bibs adored her favorite brother-in-law Paul, niece Trina, Brad, Anja, Nash & Jordyn; niece Shantelle, Tom, Dayna & Mason. Christmas won’t seem the same without ‘Auntie BarB-Qs’ pass around the phone.
In her younger years she would do anything to go hide out in Langham with her cuz Mikey. Oh the stories that came out of that thru email & the Chucks, they always stayed in contact.
Barb spent the last 28 years in Yukon, where she met her common law husband Dean Thomas. They shared so many outdoor adventures together. Barb left knowing he will take good care of her Beaner & Francine. From Faro to Haines Junction, she made so many friends, one of whom is Linda Wondga of Faro. They were very close and became long time friends. Many newcomers to the area were so honored that Barbie was their first friend; she always made a point of making everyone feel welcome. She inspired, guided & touched so many. Her laugh was bigger than life.
We are so grateful to Kelly, Julie, & Fran for being there for us, our Rocks. Deeply felt the love and support from Jack & Audrey for all of us. Thanks to Leslie for being there for our Bob. The amazing staff at Whitehorse General Hospital who took such special care with dignity & compassion- we will never forget your kindness.
A Celebration of Life for Barbie will be held Saturday October 8th at lot 1025, in the Alsek Valley (10Km west of Haines Junction, just past Bear Creek Logging on Alaska Highway). Signs will be posted on the highway.

Barb will forever be in our hearts..I said more than once Barb I don’t always agree with you but we have always loved you. You loved to have fun and lived your life to the fullest and along the way made so many friends.I will never forget your Mothers Day calls, maybe not always on the right day but in your words that way the phone isn’t always busy. You left us way too soon but we are so thankful Bob, Sandra, Donna, Kelly and Julie and of course Dean had some quiet time before you left us. Rest in peace
Ed & Ardys Hosh
So sorry Sandra and family to hear of Bib’s passing. You are in our thoughts.
