Carol Matsen
Carol passed away peacefully at her home outside Whitehorse on Monday September 18, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her grandson Zack (Samantha) Witham and great granddaughter Jillian Cindy Witham, her granddaughter Kristin (Charlie) Peasley, brother Rex (Wilma) Gray, sister Glenda (Buck) Mabbutt, son-in-law Cam Drinnan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her husband Dick Matsen, daughter Cindy, son-in-law John, son Thane, sister Shirley, sister Mona, and brother Don.
Carol and Dick lived in the Yukon since 1969. The first many years in Ross River, and these later years in Whitehorse. She was born in north central Alberta in a log cabin at a place called Spruce Canyon, later living in Redwater, Bon Accord and Edmonton area. She loved the north, but also loved “getting out of the bush” on occasion to visit with family in Alberta. She fought a valiant battle with cancer, travelling to Edmonton every two weeks for many months for treatment. Her spirit, humor and wit stayed strong and sharp right to the end. A huge thank you to her very good friends Dwaine, Harold and Audrey for their help, support and care. Also, many thanks to Dr. Sally and Dr. Anna for their friendship and outstanding care, and the terrific ladies from Yukon Home Care, and her sister Glenda for her loving care over the last weeks.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Carol’s home on Takhini Hot Springs Rd. on Wednesday September 20, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Cross Cancer Foundation, or a charitable cause of your choice.

Carol, Dick, Cindy and Thane were my home, my heart, my joy in my youth. My grief is tempered only by the thought that they are all together once again.
Can you hear the laughter.
