David (Smiley) Nelson Ford

June 28, 1947 ~ March 25, 2026

David (Smiley) Nelson Ford

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David (Smiley) Ford at the age of 78.

David’s parents moved the family to the Yukon in the early 1960’s.  They worked in the construction industry which included the building of the Palace Grand in Dawson City, the Vocational School in Whitehorse and working at the Faro Anvil mine site.  David worked throughout the Yukon as a carpenter, foreman and superintendent for over 40 years. His jovial witty nature and legendary smile was his trademark and it always helped to keep the work crew positive.  Hence the nickname, Smiley.

David married in 1979 and had two children. David and his wife built a lovely farm overlooking the Takhini River, where they raised their family.  This was a tremendous undertaking, from Yukon bushland to farmland.  He was so proud of his elk farm and he was always the happiest at home.

David leaves behind his wife, Shirley, his son Alexander (Ginger), his daughter Jill, and two darling grandkids, Aurora and Xander.  He also leaves behind his brother Calvin (Patti) and numerous nephews and nieces.

We would like to thank Doctor Jamieson, along with the staff at WGH.

A Celebration of Life will be held in early June at David’s beloved farm.
