Edith May Aldridge
Ms. Edith May Aldridge of Alexander Street, Whitehorse, a resident of the Yukon Territory for 33 years, died at the age of 69 on the morning of Thursday June 23rd 2016 in Whitehorse General Hospital of complications related to her heart condition. She had been ill and in hospital since May 11th, 2016, including two weeks of emergency care and treatment at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia before being flown by air ambulance back to Whitehorse, Yukon on Friday June 17th 2016.
Her passing will be mourned by her many friends and family members. Ms. Aldridge was born Edith May McEachern on May 15th, 1947 in Bracebridge, Ontario, daughter of Bertha McEachern (nee Logan) and Angus McEachern, sister to 8 brothers and 2 sisters. She is remembered by her three surviving brothers, Ron, Gord and Gil McEachern and one remaining sister, Isabel Yoisten.
Edith was married to the late Mr. George Thomas Aldridge (deceased December 18, 1997) on August 5th, 1978 at Bracebridge Ontario. Together with their children, they moved from Alberta north to the Yukon Territory in the summer of 1983. Later they divorced, July 24th, 1987 in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. Together they had two daughters, Mrs. Sherry Elizabeth Tyrner and Mrs. Tracy Alice Dart. Besides her two daughters, Edith also leaves two Grandchildren, Spencer Erich Tyrner and Kendra Randi Dart.
Always a hard worker, Edith held several jobs over her lifetime, such as cooking for the Pot Belly Restaurant and Cross Roads treatment centre in Whitehorse, Yukon. Many people might remember her working at the McDonald’s restaurant from the Whitehorse store’s opening day for many years until her failing health would allow her to work no more. Not one to remain idle, Edith volunteered with the Golden Age Society as a Bingo Caller at Closeleigh Manor.
A Viewing will be held the evening of Wednesday June 29th, 2016 at Heritage North Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at Whitehorse United Church, performed by The Rev. Beverly C.S. Brazier, Minister on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 at 2:00 PM. A Reception will follow also at the Whitehorse United Church in the reception room upstairs. Following the service, Ms. Aldridge will be interred with a graveside ceremony at Grey Mountain Cemetery.
Ms. Aldridge’s devoted daughters, their loving husbands, Scott Tyrner and Randy Dart, and their families will all miss Edith greatly.
