Fred Thomas Aldridge
Fred Thomas Aldridge died February 28, 2024, in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory at age 67 years.
He was born December 6, 1956, in Orillia, Ontario to Mother Edith Audrey Aldridge (née Jarrett, died 1991) and Father George Thomas Aldridge (died 1997). Fred was brother to Joan Edith Aldridge (died 2021), William Jack Aldridge (died 2022), Ron Aldridge, Sherry Elizabeth Tyrner (née Aldridge) and Tracy Alice Dart (née Aldridge).
While common-law spouse to Susan Gloria Groat (died 2013), Fred was stepfather to Lisa Marylin Meyer-Aldridge and Erik Devon Meyer-Aldridge. Sadly, Susan and Fred’s first-born daughter Maxine passed away as an infant in 1984. Together, Fred and Susan were parents to West Thomas Aldridge and Ashley Ann Aldridge.
He was uncle to his brother Jack’s children John Aldridge and Patsy Robinson (died 2021), and great uncle to Jack’s grandsons Alex and Josh Aldridge. Fred was also uncle to his sister Sherry’s son, Spencer Tyrner, and his sister Tracy’s daughter, Kendra Dart.
Over his life, Fred worked in carpentry and mechanics. He operated a tow truck company and wrecking yard. Together with his common-law wife Susan, Fred helped run a farm near Seba Beach, Alberta and an acreage in Entwistle, Alberta. The couple also ran a deck build and yard work company.
Ashley, Fred’s daughter, describes her father as a hard worker with an adventurous spirit and the most open-minded person. His son, West, fondly remembers how his dad loved to tell stories and was something of a philosopher.
Fred didn’t like sitting still. An active person, he enjoyed being on the move from driving to biking and swimming, or just taking walks. He preferred being in nature when possible and enjoyed camping. With his brother Jack, Fred enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, and having long animated talks. He was at his best as a fun and helpful big brother to his youngest sisters. He will be missed and remembered by his remaining family and friends.
The family sends our gratitude to the Yukon’s Chief Coroner Heather Jones for providing the family with compassion during our loss. We extend our sincere appreciation to Rahel at Heritage North Funeral Home for her respectful care, guidance, and comfort.
Fred will be laid to rest at Grey Mountain Cemetery in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory on Monday March 11, 2024. There will be a graveside service at 1pm, officiated by Pastor Kevin Powell.
