James N. McLelland
On Tuesday, May 14, 2019, James (Jamie) Nealon McLelland passed away at the age of 52. Jamie is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jeanette, and two sons, Daniel (9) and Kaden (13), his sister, Shauna and her family, and father, Jim. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Lynn.
In recent years, Jamie lived in a long-term care facility due to severe injuries inflicted by a car accident. His life was simple, yet full of beauty and grace. Before then, Jamie enjoyed the challenge of his work with the Department of the Environment, Yukon Government, with special interest in the management of caribou and other wildlife. He held a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from UNBC, a Science Degree from Acadia University, N.S. and an Agricultural Degree from Agricultural College in Truro, N.S. Jamie was an avid hunter, fisher, and gardener, plying his hand at huge food gardens, raising chickens, and always researching ways to create action against climate change. He knew his way around the kitchen, plus carpentry and basic mechanics, and loved a good wood stove, especially with a quality glass of wine or whiskey in hand. Jamie was known for having high standards, for his occasionally stern disposition, and his quiet generosity.
A gift to this world, he will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 2:00pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with a reception to follow in the CYO Hall downstairs. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Yukon Chapter, will be appreciated.

Keep your memories of Jamie close to your hearts. Jamie was a family friend while we were growing up in the Annapolis Valley. He was sometimes solemn (especially at church), sometimes teased us (at lunches in the big white Grand Pre house) but always had time to talk to three little girls. He will be missed. We have fond memories of sitting in the pew behind a tall nice looking young man who proceeded to get his fingers stuck in the communion glassholder. We stifled chuckles as his mother Lynn helped extricate his fingers. Jamie laughed about it years later.
Our families spent many enjoyable times together. We enjoyed seeing Jim’s face light up when Jamie came in the room.
Jamie’s loving relationship with Shauna was always evident in the way he looked up to his big sister.
Our condolences are with all of you in the loss of your son, brother, husband and father.

I just learned of Jamie’s passing today. I was blessed to be Jamie’s best man when he and Jeanette were married. I have extremely fond memories of that occasion and of the many adventures we shared in the wilderness. I always admired and looked up to him! My love to Jeanette.
