Jodi Marie Binns
Jodi was born July 9, 1972, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to her parents, Lois and Murray Gering. Her family moved to their farm near Waldeck, Saskatchewan, in 1978. Growing up on the farm fostered her love for animals, especially kitties. She graduated from Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 1990.
The following years, she went to college in Swift Current. She moved to Saskatoon to help her “unbiological” sister, Yvette, with her children. She moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, where her sister Tammie was living. Her dad passed in 1996. A very short time later, in 1997, she met her future husband, Ken. They were married on July 17, 1999. The day after they were married, they moved to Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. While living there, she made many friends and enjoyed playing softball with Ken in the summer. In May 2001, she moved to Camrose, Alberta, because of Ken’s work. They spent the summer in Camrose before Ken accepted a job in Whitehorse, Yukon, in September 2001. After making the move to Whitehorse, she joined Ken working at Walmart. She made the move to working at McDonald’s. After a short time, Ken made the switch to working with her at McDonald’s. Her health began to fail her, but with help from Ken and her super positive, never say die attitude, she battled through adversity. On June 6, 2015, she got a kidney transplant. After getting her kidney, which she named George, she was off and running. She went back to college in her 40s and got a degree in office administration, and later completed the financial side, of course, getting a second degree. After she obtained that, she started working for the City of Whitehorse.
Jodi’s passions were her husband Ken, with whom she was married for 26 years, her family, and her friends. She had a great love of being part of Special Olympics Yukon, and of course, you can’t forget her fur babies, which she adored more than words could express.
Jodi has touched so many people in her short 53 years with us. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, her sense of humor, her never say die attitude, and her cheerfulness even in the face of adversity. She was the strongest woman I knew and an inspiration to so many.
Jodi was predeceased by her dad, Murray. She was survived by her beloved husband Ken and her fur babies, Talladega (Bay bah), Bristol, Charolette (yes, they are all named after NASCAR racetracks; she let Ken name them), and Chinook. Her loving mom Lois, sister Tammie, niece Heidi, and nephew Dylan, whom she loved very much, her loving family of in-laws, and many others.
In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation in her honor to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC Kidney Foundation.

Don’t think of her as gone away
Her journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she was loved so much.

A lovely picture, tribute, and poem for Jodi, I don’t know if we ever discussed Swift Current as that is where I grew up.
Condolences to Ken and extended family, I’m sure her fur babies miss her as well.
