Joseph Edmund Allain (Zie)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Joseph Edmund Allain (Zie) on September 19, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Prince Edward Island to Benjamin and Denise Allain, Joe led a full and exciting life with many a crazy tales to tell.
In 1955, Joe married Catherine and although they were not able to have children of their own, they eventually adopted three children. Both he and Catherine would regularly tell the kids how happy they were to have the children they had chosen. Family was important to Joe and with a large extended family on both sides, life on PEI was filled with family gatherings, family camping trips and endless music.
In 1982, Joe and his wife Catherine decided to start over, pack up their three kids, Tiny the dog and move from PEI to the Yukon, taking only what they could fit in the trunk of their car. A decision they would never regret.
Joe worked various types of jobs over the years, just to name a few, he was a wood cutter, truck driver, and a commissionaire in Dawson City, Yukon. He and his wife Catherine were business owners of The Spot in Summerside, PEI and John’s Speedy Car Wash in Whitehorse, Yukon.
He loved camping, playing cards and just going for drives but his passion in life was music. He was a self-taught musician, and could play anything with a set of strings, but will be most remembered as a gifted fiddle player. Joe played in many bands over the years in PEI, Whitehorse and countless East Coast kitchen parties.
Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Tracey (Peter) Jacobs, Milford (Sandra) Allain and Dawn (Allen) Badke. His grandchildren Kasey, Jake, Jessie, Dawson and Sylvana; great grandchildren Madisyn, Ryan, Daisy and Minnie. Also, his sisters Nelda Arsenault, Phyllis Gaudet; brothers Clifford Allain and Wayne Allain. Joe is predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years Catherine; his parents Benjamin and Denise Allain; his brothers Gerald Allain, Melvin Allain, Phillip Allain; and his sister Jane Dugay.
Funeral Services will be held for Joe at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Whitehorse, Yukon on October 11th, 2025, at 12:00pm.
