Keith Frederick Murphy

Keith went peacefully to Jesus on Friday morning at the age of 80.

Much loved and remembered by his wife of 46 years, Mary, three children Kathie, Shauna (Arcadio) and Brett, grand-daughter Anna Rodriguez, as well as extended family and friends.

Born in Guelph, Ontario but raised in “Peace River Country” (Spirit River, Alberta) by his father Jim Murphy, Keith found his long-time home in Whitehorse, Yukon in 1978 when he transferred from Alberta Power to Yukon Electrical, where he worked in the Whitehorse warehouse until 1990. He made a wide range of contacts at the customer service desks at Beaver Lumber, then Fred’s Plumbing, and after retirement he kept busy at the Superstore bakery, and lately “fiddling” with things around the house, yard, and trails near home.

Keith loved music, playing by ear with guitar being his favourite. He could tell a few stories about his band playing community dances in Spirit River for the rock and roll crowd or filing in with his Pop’s old time fiddle band. In recent years as his world and abilities narrowed, the music stayed strong in his memories.

The family wishes to thank his friends who faithfully brought him or met him for coffee, and the caring nurses and staff at Whistle Bend Place House 2 who made him as comfortable as possible these past six months.

There will a private family service at the cemetery. An informal drop-in reception will be held at the Murphy house on August 27th, from 3pm to 5pm for anyone who knew or worked with Keith.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, of which Keith was a long-time supporter, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
