Libby Dulac

June 8, 1947 ~ March 17, 2023

Libby Dulac

Libby joined our father Claude and our Lord and Saviour in heaven on March 17, 2023, peacefully. She leaves behind her loving children Marcel (Elodie) Dulac and Claire (Blaine) Richter and their grandchildren Jared, Joshua, Jacob, Eden, Ethny, Elisha Dulac and Mikaelle Richter.

Libby was born in Pearly, England and met her beloved French husband Claude in 1969; they married in 1970. They followed their dreams of Canada, immigrating in 1973 and discovered that Edmonton wasn’t far enough North… so they drove up the Alaska Highway to the Yukon. After a year in Mayo where Marcel was born, they moved to the community of their dreams out in Haines Junction. There, Libby set to keeping herself busy by building the Thrift Shop with Barb Henkel and running the Sunday School in the Anglican Church. It wasn’t until after Claire was born that she started to dabble with painting. Libby started painting on gold pans and then transitioned her work onto canvas. She started painting in oils and over time became interested in water colours as they dried much more quickly than oils did. Libby has shared her joy of painting and her flower gardens with anyone who entered her home.

Libby’s passion for God, her joy of hospitality, her love of God’s beautiful country at her front doorstep, her flowers, and painting it all for us to enjoy, defined who she was. After Claude passed away in 2015, Libby carried on his ministry as a lay leader in the Catholic Church. She welcomed everyone and anyone who showed any interest in the Lord, with open arms. Her vision of love for all in ecumenical harmony was witnessed in her last days with us.

Libby’s celebration of life will take place in Haines Junction at the Da Ku Culture Centre at 2:00 PM on April 22, 2023. Libby’s burial will immediately follow at the Village of Haines Junction Cemetery. Reception to follow, back at Da Ku.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary House (Whitehorse), the Salvation Army (Whitehorse), or Mary’s Meals (www.marysmeals.ca).

Luckily managed to get a visit in with Claude and Libby the last time we made up to the Yukon. Enid Taite who married us commissioned Libby to do a painting as a gift for our wedding which I am looking at now. It and many other paintings of hers we have in our home bring us joy and memories of the Junction and the great community of people there. Feel very fortunate to have known them both and called them friends. Condolences to their families, may their memories live long in your hearts, as they will do in ours.

I had the pleasure of visiting Libby in her beautiful home during the summer of 2022. Libby welcomed us in and shared some of her story and paintings with us. What an amazing woman and what an incredible life. Libby’s fireweed print graces my home and I think of Libby often. I feel so grateful to have shared that time with her on my visit to the north. Please accept our heartfelt condolences from my family to yours, as well as to the many friends and the extended community that share in Libby’s loss. May you Rest In Peace, Libby, in the beauty that you so generously brought to our world.

I met Libby September 25, 2018 on my first visit to Kluane National Park. My friend, Gureeta Rai suggested dropping by and meeting Libby as I too paint. Libby was kind and friendly. Her home was warm and inviting just as she was. She showed me her art and art painting room. It was all beautiful, breathtaking and memorable. I bought some of her art and will treasure both her and her work. We are so blessed to have met her.

    «They will see his face,
and his name will be written on their foreheads.
There shall be no more night,
and they will not need lamps or sunlight,
because the Lord God will be their light,
and they will rule as kings for ever and never ». Rev 22, 4-5

    Claire, Marcel, and your families,
I want to share my deepest sympathies with you.
More than a friend, your Mom was for me an apostle of unity and a contemplative artist into the hands of our Creator.
As she has painted in so many ways what she was seeing, she enters now into the VISION of God.
As she has gathered people in so many ways building a living and faithful community, she becomes now ONE with God.
As she told me a day that she hid a cross in each painting that she created, I feel now that I could also see Libby
as an explosion of LOVE and PEACE through mountains, flowers, lakes and rivers, stars and sun.
Because the Lord God was her LIGHT all along her journey, she becomes now LIGHT with HIM…shining into our hearts.
May the Peace of Christ comfort you and transform your sadness in a stream of JOY!
    Père Claude

We had the privilege of meeting and visiting Libby at her home in the Junction with our good friend and former neighbour in Vancouver, Tessa Wilson, who knew Libby while growing
up in England many years ago. We thank you Libby for welcoming us to your home and your gracious hospitality. God bless you and may you rest in peace. Bill and Annerose Sims, now residing back in Vancouver.

Very sorry to find this news. I just finished watching the Canada over the Edge show with Mrs. Dulac in it today, so was checking on her and her paintings! Seemed like a lovely lady in the show and I send my sympathy to her family.
