Lynne Marie Sofiak
We are saddened to announce the passing of Lynne Marie Sofiak on October 16, 2021 after living with cancer for many years. Lynne was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on July 30, 1954. As the second of five children she developed her characteristic strength playing a major role in the care of her siblings at what today would be regarded as a very young age. She came to the Yukon in the early 1970s in search of adventure and spent several years living in a log cabin deep in the Yukon wilderness at Frederick Lake. After moving back to the Whitehorse area she raised her two sons and became an accomplished and well known local artist whose pottery will be her enduring legacy. Lynne was a devoted grandparent to her three grandsons and her desire to watch them grow was a source of strength for her as she endured more than eight years of illness. She liked to spend her spare time puttering in her garden. In her final years she developed a love of the sport of pickleball which she played vigorously even after multiple surgeries and treatments.
Lynne is predeceased by her parents John and Betty Sofiak. She will be deeply missed by her sons Kyle and Graeme Carruthers; her daughters in law Kristine and Kendyl, her beloved grandchildren Marcus, Luca, and Cole; her siblings Rick, Karen, Bill and Wendy; and her many friends both old and new.
Thank you to everyone who assisted in her care and brought her comfort in her final days.
A celebration of life will be held at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre at 3:00 on November 27. If you wish to attend please email kylecarruthers@hotmail.com in order to ensure proper spacing.
