Margaret “Adele” Mole

March 20, 1953 ~ June 11, 2022

Margaret “Adele” Mole

It is with great sadness the family of Adele Mole (nee Maruk) announces her passing at the young age of 69.

Adele was born in Whitehorse, then raised in Carcross and Whitehorse. She was the third of six children born to Bill and Marg Maruk (nee McMurphy). A kind-hearted soul with a strong spirit, wicked sense of humour and infectious laugh. She was a true Yukon gem!

She will be forever missed by her loving family, husband Barry Mole; daughter Michelle; sons Patrick (Megan), Nathan (Danielle); and grandsons Cash, Issac and Mickey. Adele is survived by her sister Pauli Gabb (Gregor); brothers, Mike Maruk (Linda) and Len Maruk (Glynis); friends turned sisters, Colleen Killins-Bubiak (Paul) and Debbie Osborne (Steve); along with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. She is pre-deceased by her parents, sister Irene Maruk and brother John Maruk.

An avid bird watcher, her binoculars were always ready, and she had countless bits of knowledge to share her findings! Thank you, Kathy Zimmer, for sharing this passion and a friendship full of many birding and cross-country skiing adventures. So many people have the memories, connections and longtime friendships created throughout her life time, found through community, families, children and colleagues.

Adele enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, in summers camping around the Yukon and Haines, and winters vacationing in Mexico or Hawaii. In 2018 she and Barry spent three months on a cross-Canada road trip. She was known for her love of snowmen, the magic of Christmas and for carrying forward the family tradition of making hot cross buns at Easter. In retirement, she took up daily walking, sitting out back enjoying coffee in the sun, yoga and word games.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the dedicated teams at WGH and Wind River Hospice for the treatment, care and compassion they provided to Adele throughout her journey with Breast Cancer. In lieu of flowers, Adele has asked that donations be made to the WGH chemotherapy room Karen’s Room.

When you see the fireweed rustling in the breeze or are by the water and hear the loons call, think of Adele, she will be with you.

A celebration of life tea will be held for Adele on Saturday, June 11, 2023 at the Golden Age Society in Whitehorse, Yukon, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (open house). Memory displays will be available for people to share a photo, note or story. Can’t make it but still want to share; email michellemole@yahoo.ca.

A fine neighbour with a ready smile and a great baker of hot cross buns. She is already missed by those of us who lived next door and the squirrels that raided her bird feeder by the kitchen window! Rest in peace.
