Mark Olsen (Alexandrovich)
Mark Olsen, (born Alexandrovich) of Whitehorse, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2024.
Mark was born in the Yukon in 1955, raised around Whitehorse, spent 20 years in Manitoba and moved back north to Whitehorse, Yukon around 2004. He was an incredibly good mechanic of the old style….he would listen to an engine and tell you which part needed replacing, and if you could get away with just replacing a bolt in that part. He spent his working life as a truck driver, mostly in the north, with all the skills that were needed to make it up and down the old Alaska Highway, the Dempster, and the Haines Road. Many of these roads he helped to build, or rebuild. A man of many rural skills, he could build, fix, and make-do in most situations.
He was equally good with a fishing rod, and few could match his catch rate, anywhere. He could tell you what a fish was doing down there, and fool it most times into biting his hook.
He is survived by five siblings: Arlene, Shiela, Paul, David, and Linda. He has two living daughters, Kelia and Robin, and was pre-deceased by his sons Grant and Dustin. There are 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Mark’s ashes will be interred at Grey Mountain Cemetery at noon, on February 15. All are welcome.
We will have a memorial picnic at Fox Lake Campground, June 19, 2024, from mid-afternoon until early evening. Bring your fishing rod, something to barbecue and a stump to sit on, Mark style.
So we raise a glass to you, Mark, and hope the fish are biting, wherever you end up!

Hey guys. Sorry to hear about Mark. Boy it is hard to believe that has been 55 years since our families lived down the street from each other!

I’m so sorry to hear of Mark’s passing. I had no idea that happened. I’m from Manitoba, our mothers were cousins. I met Mark when he came to Manitoba. I was calling him today as it was his birthday. My mother’s maiden name was Nix. Again my sincere condolences.
