It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Micheal William Vaillancourt on March 11, 2023, in Whitehorse, Yukon. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Lori Henderson (Malcolm) and Albert Vaillancourt (Sarah); sons Hayden (Laurene) and Cody (Melanie); brother Ryan (Katie); niece Alison; sisters (Anita and Collynda); his uncle John (Lynn) and stepbrothers; as well as many wonderful friends.
Mike, as he went by, grew up in Whitehorse, where he attended F.H. Collins High School. After school, Mike remained in the Yukon and found employment as a heavy-duty equipment operator. Operating equipment came easy to Mike, and something he always enjoyed, but so was managing work sites and people. Mike’s aptitude and commitment to hard work landed him a lifelong career constructing roads and underground infrastructure throughout of the Yukon. Mike enjoyed several activities that came naturally to growing up in the Yukon. In the summer, he greatly enjoyed fishing and challenging his jet boat up questionable channels to find that special fishing hole. He shared his passion for fishing and boating with his brother and sons. Another of Mike’s greatest passions was snowmobiling with his little brother. Mike and Ryan, along with their friends were a tight knit group of sledders. They called themselves the Summit Savages and made many videos mastering jumps, bales, epic fails, many injuries, and just plain silly shenanigans. It was truly a high light in Mike’s life, and we are grateful to have these memories.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice in honor of Mike. The family wishes to thank-you for your condolences at this time. A celebration of life is being planned for the summer of 2023.
