Nora Bowers

Nora Bowers

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mom, Nora Bowers. Nora passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 4, 2023. She was a fierce warrior and fighter to the end.

Nora was born on March 13, 1934, in Bonnyville, Alberta. Mom and our Dad, Glenn Bowers, were married in 1952. Mom is predeceased by her husband of 41 years. Mom had seven children, which amazingly included two sets of twins back-to-back. Mom also had one adopted daughter. Mom is predeceased by two of her children, Glory and Brant. Mom is survived by five of her children, Lee (Roger-deceased), Gail (Norm), Sue (Kerry), Glenn (Sue), Mark (Lani), and Jenny (Loren). Mom is also survived by numerous grand and great-grand children throughout the Yukon, Alberta, and British Columbia. She will be really missed by all.

Mom, Dad, and the family relocated from Calgary to Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) in 1973. Mom always had a passion and incredible talent for sewing. While in Frobisher Bay, she taught herself how to make traditional Inuit parkas.  In 1983, Mom, Dad, and the two children still at home, moved to Faro, Yukon. They were only there for a short period before moving to Dawson City, Yukon.  Mom continued to live in Dawson City when Dad passed in 1993. Sadly, Mom’s house was destroyed in a house fire, and she moved to Whitehorse in 2007 to be closer to her family members. Up until 2020, Mom continued sewing and she was attempting to teach one granddaughter how to sew.

Another passion of Mom’s was Bingo. She loved a good bingo game and played Softball Yukon radio bingo up to the final weeks of her life. She would often holler at the radio to “give those balls a good shake.”

We want to give special thanks to Wind River Hospice, and the nurses and caretakers who treated Mom like a queen. The new facility is absolutely amazing. Mom always resisted going into a care facility and it was high praise indeed for her to tell me, “This place is pretty good. They treat me really well.”  We also want to give big thanks to Dr. Kmet and Danusia.

Our mother did not wish to have a service. In remembrance of Nora, please consider donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local food bank.

Mom, Grandma, you are loved and will never be forgotten.
