Ray Hadley

October 1, 1949 ~ January 5, 2019

Ray Hadley

Charles Rainsford Hadley was born on October 1st, 1949 to Jim and Marion Hadley at St. Mary’s Hospital in Dawson City Yukon.  As long as I can remember the name Rainsford was used all through school.

Rainsford was a trucker from the start in Dawson and eventually moving to Whitehorse and purchased his first truck in 1970 or 1971 – a Freightliner cab over, red & white.

Rainsford was one of the few who has driven on literally every road and every exploration road in the Yukon as well as Alaska (Prudeau Bay), Clinton Creek and to the diamond mines in NWT as well as most of western Canada.  He has hauled everything from fuel, massive radio antennae, wrecked airplane & trucks, groceries and MILLIONS of gallons of fuel.

He was known in every truck stop, lodge and community up and down the Alaska Hwy, Klondike Hwy & Dempster Hwy.  He made an impression with every waitress…..mostly good….sometimes not.  He just really made an impression on every person he met in different ways.

Rainsford met Geana in Whitehorse and were married in 1975. They had two children, Clayton & Samantha.  They bought a cabin at Tagish and a house in Whitehorse where they raised their children.  Rainsford spent the last years of his life happily “shacked up”, as he would call it, with Chrissy.

Rainsford was through & through a Yukoner.  He never felt at home anywhere else but the Yukon and the people that live here.

Rainsford was predeceased by his father, Jim, and his mother, Marion.  He leaves to mourn Chrissy (their dog Buddy), Clayton (Ashley) and Samantha (Zack), siblings Myrna, Margaret, Robert (Irene), nieces Robbie & Lorraine, nephew Jim, grandchildren Emma, Colby, Casey, Sophie & Jillian.

Rainsford was a kind, loving, caring and generous person.  He loved his family, he loved life and he loved his truck.

Rainsford you will be sadly missed by all.  Rest in peace

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00pm at Mount McIntyre’s Grey Mountain Room in Whitehorse.
