Sandra Gay Sewell
Sandra Gay Sewell (Brown) passed away peacefully on April 19, 2018. She left life as she lived it, on her own terms, after a celebration with her closest friends and family, on her 68th birthday.
She leaves behind her beloved son, Ben Sewell, his wife Monique, and their daughters Alisha and Karissa, her granddaughter, Courtney Grant-Sewell and her great grandson, Kye. She was predeceased by her treasured daughter, Rachael, who passed away December 4, 2012.
Sandy was born April 19, 1950 in Lindsay, Ontario and moved with her family to the Yukon in 1982. Sandra worked in a variety of Yukon Government positions, and she was recently retired from the Department of Justice.
For those that had the pleasure of truly knowing Sandy, she will be remembered for her commitment to her work – her keen attention to detail, her organization, and her knowledge. Her quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor will be fondly remembered by many. Sandy has asked that people remember her in their own way – find a favourite memory of her and take some time to enjoy that moment.
Many thanks to Sandy’s long-time friends, for their uplifting support over the last year. Special thanks to Dr. Brad Avery, Dr. Sally MacDonald, and the amazing nurses of Whitehorse General Hospital for their dedication, compassion and excellent care.
Sandra has requested no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. A short recognition of Sandy’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the Golden Age Society at 4061A Fourth Avenue, in Whitehorse, Yukon.

I had the pleasure of working with Sandy for 6 years in the Department of Justice, as the EA for the Deputy Minister & her position as EA to the Asst Deputy Minister we worked closely every day either on the phone & or in person. I had great respect for Sandy & loved her sense of twisted humor which is why I think we got along so well & got through some of our tough days on the job LOL!!!! It was the humor that got us through it.
I moved on from Justice Aug 2014 but we managed to stay in touch & have a few lunch dates together. Sandy always loved it when I would reach out to her every spring on where the best deals were for the best flowers . We both shared the love for flowers & spring I was just thinking of her the other week wondering how she was but was sadly informed on Friday of her passing.
My last visit with Sandy was a nice one back in January we ran into each other in Wal-Mart & we had a good visit as she advised of her progress & where she was at in her battle with cancer, I told her to be strong & she can win this fight but clearly saw she was doubtful about it but said Power of Positive thinking & gave her big hugs. I wish I had a chance to have gone & held her hand these past 2 weeks but am glad to have had the last visit we did which I will remember well.
May she now rest in peace & be united with Rachel amazing how much they were alike but so different love them both :):) May you find fields of flowers in heaven together. xoxox
