Scott Smith
Scott Smith passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humility, and deep connection with those fortunate enough to know him.
Scott was a man who found true joy in being of service to others. His life was a reflection of quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to helping those around him. Nowhere was this more evident than in his beloved AA community, which he held close to his heart. Scott was deeply proud of his 39 years, 4 months, and 1 day of sobriety—a milestone he carried with gratitude and shared openly to inspire others.
Outside of his service to others, Scott found peace and happiness by the water. A passionate fisherman, he was never more content than when casting a line, patiently waiting and hoping to reel in the next great catch. Those moments—on the water, surrounded by nature—were among his happiest.
Scott had a way of making people feel seen and valued. He was never afraid to say “I love you,” and his hugs—affectionately known as “Scott bear hugs”—were legendary: big, warm, and completely genuine, just like him. Whether it was his deep belly laugh, his twinkling eyes, his rich baritone voice, or his dancing feet, Scott brought light and energy wherever he went. His capacity for forgiveness and compassion knew no bounds.
Scott will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Della; his children, Brian and Glen; his step-children, Kari (Kris) and Shay (Joelle); his sisters, Laurel (Dave), Linda (Ross), Shelley (Joe), and Helen; and his cherished grandchildren, Brooklyn, Cash, Paisley & Justice. He also leaves behind beloved extended family, along with the many close friends and community members whose lives he touched through his journey in sobriety.
He will be missed beyond words.
Scott’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of human connection. His spirit will live on in every act of kindness and every open-hearted embrace.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr Kmet and the staff at Wind River Hospice for their care, love and support.

Della, my sincerest condolences for your loss. It was said that Scott was waiting for the big “Catch”, but you landed the nicest gentle, great catch. I will always remember is bear hugs, and belly laughs, and his kindness towards me as I made Yukon home 25 years ago.
Take care of yourself.
