Simon Angus Woodsend

August 8, 1950 ~ April 17, 2022

Simon Angus Woodsend

Simon Angus Woodsend, son of the late Gervase and Katharine Woodsend, passed away on April 17, 2022. He passed peacefully at his remote home at the age of 71.

Angus was born in Hunstanton, Norfolk, England, on August 8, 1950. He spent his childhood in Brancaster Staithe, where his family resided. His summers were spent flying in his family’s airplane with his father, mother and brother Hugh to wonderful destinations such as the South of France and Brittany. Angus attended Aysgarth Prep School, later going to Harrow. He earned his degree in Geology from Southampton University.

Post university, Angus worked in South Africa, a time in his life he remembered fondly. His career took him to Canada after Africa. First landing in Labrador City, Newfoundland, then on to Northern BC, and finally residing in Yukon Territory. He was a respected prospector, geologist, and placer miner. He understood the land and had a deep connection with the wilderness. He was proud to live off-grid, maintaining a self-sufficient lifestyle surrounded by all of Yukon’s beauty.

Angus is survived by his brother Hugh Woodsend and his son Cameron Woodsend.

As Angus was very private, there will not be a public service. His ashes will be spread at sea, as per his wishes.

What a lovely photo of Angus as we will remember him. We are grateful for all the years and many good Christmases. All the best to you Cam, and thank you for everything you are doing for your Dad at this time.

We met Angus many years ago while visiting relatives on Salt Spring. Our family still uses the jigsaw puzzle board that he made for us more than 35 years ago. RIP.
