Mary Margaret Hartshorne (née Stewart)
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Hartshorne on March 7, 2025. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, Mary remained a proud member of the community throughout her life. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 41 years, Brett, and her loving children, Jennifer (Brian) and Brent (Nicole). She was a cherished grandmother to Ashlynn (Coyle), Makayla, Cameron, Gregory, Eilidh, and Colin, and a proud great-grandmother to Bennett.
Mary is survived by her siblings JoAnn, Barb (Mickey), Donna (Bob), Nancy (Gary), Ray (Collette), Charles, and Colin, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Don, and her sister Shirley.
Mary was a fighter. She faced her battle with breast cancer with incredible strength, courage, and resilience, never giving up and never losing her spirit. Through it all, she continued to find joy in the company of her family and friends, long walks with her beloved dog, Millie, and her passion for beading.
Mary was blessed with a circle of close friends whose love and support never wavered. They stood by her side through every challenge, bringing comfort, laughter, and companionship when she needed it most. Their unwavering friendship was a source of strength, and our family is profoundly grateful for the kindness and care they showed her.
We also extend our deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Whitehorse General Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, and Wind River Care Facility for their exceptional care and compassion. Their dedication made a great difference in Mary’s journey, and we are forever thankful.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to Karen’s Room, care of the Yukon Hospital Foundation, a cause close to her heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held in late July.

Last year we met Mary & Brett for the very first time. We spent a very enjoyable evening together & remarked afterwards how comfortable it was being with them both, especially Mary. She was very funny & light hearted & fun to be with for sure.
During her final days,Brian shared with us each & every day about her strength & courage. She was indeed a force to be admired, if only we could all be so brave.
Our sincerest condolences go out to you Brett, Jenn & Brent, your loss is immense. Condolences also to her Grandchildren & other close family members.
